ABSTRACT
In this chapter, readers learn about photovoice, an innovative qualitative research method. An action research method influenced by critical consciousness, feminist theories, and contemporary and documentary photography, photovoice is used both to research and to inspire community participation. Readers learn when to use photovoice, goals of photovoice, and about social action. Photovoice methodology is discussed, including different stages of preparing and implementing a photovoice project. Participant recruitment, sample size, data collection, and data analysis are discussed. The final action stage involving community action to address policy change is also discussed. A case study illustrates the preparation, implementation, and action stages for readers.
