ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on mixed-methods research design. Combining the strengths of quantitative and qualitative methods, mixed-methods research design allows researchers to support the corroboration, elaboration, and development of data collection, analysis, and interpretation in their studies. Mixed-methods research has evolved as researchers and methodologists applied various definitions and design types in different research fields. This chapter introduces the commonly used mixed-methods terms and approaches and illustrates how to apply mixed-methods research design. The uses of the four major mixed-methods design types are elaborated upon through a case example. Additional resources are provided for further exploration of the specific application of mixed-methods research design.
