ABSTRACT
The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has decided to abolish the system of military ranks in army. The primary tasks in the building of army are to take Mao Tse-tung thought as the guide, to strengthen political and ideological work, to raise class consciousness among the commanders and fighters, to develop a good style of work, to enhance the military quality of the armed forces, and to make our army still more proletarian and militant. After the abolition of military ranks, every member of the army, the navy, the air force, and the public security forces, under the Chinese People's Liberation Army, will wear on his hat a red star insignia and on his collar a red badge. The red star on the hat symbolizes the leadership of the Party and Chairman Mao, and the red revolutionary flag on the collar symbolizes the proletarian and very militant nature of army.
