ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Jung’s approach to analysis and psychotherapy. It includes a discussion of Jung’s view of the unconscious, the therapeutic relationship, and the theoretical dispute that led to the Freud-Jung break. The chapter gives an overview of key Jungian concepts about the structure and dynamics of the psyche, including Jung’s concept of the archetype, the transpersonal Self, the shadow, anima and animus, and the individuation process. The chapter discusses Jungian work with dreams, psychological types, Jung’s theory of psychopathology and complexes, the concept of synchronicity, and Jung’s approach to religion and spirituality.
