ABSTRACT

Global meaning making is a proposal that supports a dynamic form of cultural humanism and ecological togetherness. The notes on global reading do not offer a script or heuristic or formula for reading, but thoughts and suggestions for readers to compose meanings that traverse cultures. The suggestions move beyond cultural egocentrism to global cultural advocacy aligned with support for cultural eclecticism and transformative development. Drawing upon tenets of critical theory, global epistemologies, decolonization, Indigenous ways of knowing, mobility and translanguaging, ethics, and critical pedagogy, this chapter explores suggestions for global readings including activism.
