ABSTRACT

When carrying out a task analysis, one notices underlying concepts which are common to many tasks or sub-tasks. If trainees can master and use the relevant theory, this theory enables them to carry out a whole range of tasks which they would otherwise have to learn one by one. In some situations, especially in management training, there are no tasks for which the trainees are to be trained. Appreciation training gives a repertoire of possible models or a vocabulary of technical terms which may be immediately useful to the executive. A concept groups together some objects or other concepts because they have some attributes in common, and separates them from other objects which are similar but do not possess the attributes. Especially when dealing with a theoretical subject it is extremely important to have a clear idea of the way in which different topics depend on other topics. One way of doing this is to produce a logical dependency diagram.
