ABSTRACT
This conclusion makes a case for an underlying general claim of this book, that historical periodization and thinking about meso-scale historical narratives is a worthwhile endeavor for IR scholars. Doing so provides crucial, manageable contextualization for historical events and actors. The case is made for meso-scale narratives, in particular, as a means of understanding and describing international history in a way most advantageous for concept formation and theory-building.
