ABSTRACT

The basic idea behind a 360° panoramic image that can be used for a virtual reality (VR) experience is simple; images encompassing the entire visible space surrounding the photographer, or on-location observer, are created and combined into a single, panoramic image. The basic requirements for the panoramic image are straightforward yet demanding: that its field of view covers everything visible from the on-location observer’s perspective, that is, their complete view: 360° view horizontally and 180° vertically. Fewer images are required with a fisheye lens owing to its much wider field of view; the higher resolution images obtained from the 14-mm lens translates to higher resolution VR panorama. The 360° VR panoramas also excel at showcasing captivating foregrounds, such as unusual rock formations, enormous oak, redwood or pine trees or rocky beaches. The same region in the successive image will be located near its center, and thus will be intruder free.
