ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the key equipment photographers will need for nightscape photography and time-lapses, in addition to photographers' camera and lenses. Photographers' only need a camera, ballhead and tripod to create great creative nightscapes and time-lapses. Photographers' tripod is the base for every single image they make. The success of photographers' night shooting session literally rests on their tripod. A tripod that drifts will absolutely ruin even the most carefully planned and brilliantly executed composite shoot. Photographers may wish to consider hanging a heavy object from the bottom of photographers' tripod’s base to help stabilize it during extended shoots. Many tripods have a small hook built into their center for this purpose. Photographers can hang their camera bag from it, or a cloth/plastic bag filled with rocks or sand. There are several equatorial-tracking systems available, for example, that are designed specifically for nightscape photography.
