ABSTRACT

The inheritance of mutations that impair the function of genes that regulate the cell cycle or repair deoxyribose nucleic acid (DNA) are particularly detrimental, because in the absence of their active contributions, mutations accumulate at a faster rate. Mutations that are drivers in one type of cell may not necessarily do so in other types. Thus, treatments that work for cancers of a particular cell type, may not work for cancers of a different cell type. The early detection of cancer is vital to successful treatment. Cancer type identifying techniques also include: Testing for biomarkers, Imaging, Genetic testing. Therapeutic antibodies are specially prepared by chemically attaching toxic molecules to antibodies raised against antigens from cancer cells. Initial attempts at producing vaccines for cancer involved breaking up tumor cells and injecting the crude mixture back into patients. The aim of immunotherapy is to coerce the immune system into killing tumor cells.
