ABSTRACT

The possibility of abuse and violence exists in all intimate relationships. Chapter 6 focuses on survivors who do not fall into the traditional abusive-relationship roles of female as victim, male as abuser. This includes female-on-male abuse and abuse in same-sex relationships. Surviving and escaping an abusive partner, as well as recovering and regaining a normal life after leaving, often involves unique and sometimes even more difficult hurdles for these relationships than those faced by survivors of the more typical male-on-female abusive relationships.
