ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the current Crew resource management (CRM) situation at Ansett Australia and the reasons for embarking on the road to "corporate" CRM. Knowing that there should be further training activities to supplement KHUFAC, Ansett followed this with the introduction of a generic recurrent CRM program, developed with the help of consultant expertise from the NASA/University of Texas/FAA Aerospace Crew Research Project. The company formed a steering committee to set the objectives and enable the training required. The aim was to promote cross-functional and an effective team environment throughout Ansett Australia. Traditionally CRM training has focused only on safety, but there are other direct benefits as well Safety is the number one priority at Ansett Australia. With the help of representatives from the Operational Team Skills Program (OTSP) steering committee, a move to assess current level of CRM, human factors and safety awareness was introduced.
