ABSTRACT

Philosophy of religion is a thriving discipline. Yet what remains truly extraordinary is the extent to which it is ignored in modern life, for while its issues are of interest to many, few pay attention to its experts. This disjunction between the discipline and a wider culture is significant: if we are to believe some of its practitioners, contemporary arguments in philosophy of religion may not give us absolute certainty, but they are sufficiently strong to generate conviction on questions of fundamental importance for the conduct of most aspects of human life.
