ABSTRACT
An open society places far greater responsibilities and challenges upon its citizens than a closed society. Popper made it clear that the values of rationalism and respect for others do not reside within individuals, but need to be taught and nurtured. A necessary condition for the creation and maintenance of an open society is education.
