ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book analyses the changing nature of foreign investment in the form of mergers and acquisitions (M&As). It examines the implications of cross-border M&As (CM&As) on technological performance, production efficiency and market competition in the Indian manufacturing sector. The book then discusses the basic concepts and policy issues in the context of globalisation. It also provides a comparative picture of the nature and structures of cross-border deals vis-à-vis the domestic deals. The book investigates the impact of CM&As on productivity and efficiency by comparing it with the domestic M&As and that of the pre-merger period. It then tries to understand the technological performance of cross-border and domestic deals. The book also deals with some dimensions of governance issues, especially the role of post-merger integration in the success of deals.
