ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the context of the new Competition Act (CA), which aims at maintaining competition and protects the consumers' interests without harming that of producers along with their innovation efforts. It introduces the major concepts, evolution and policy points associated with mergers and acquisitions (M&As). The book portrays the nature, extent and structure of M&As occurred in India and abroad, in the context of the global scenario. It also addresses the issues regarding technology, production efficiency as well as market concentration arising out of M&As in a comparative framework involving the ownership categories such as cross-border and domestic and compares this with their own pre-merger period. The book then explores whether the Research and Development (R&D) intensity of majority of the firms increased or remained the same during the post-M&As period.
