ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the types of the fibrous Tumors, including benign fibrous tumors and malignant fibrous tumors. It describes the histopathology and differential diagnosis of some of the benign fibrous tumors, such as fibrous histiocytoma, storiform collagenoma, keloids, knuckle pads, recurrent digital fibrous tumors of childhood, ungual fibrokeratoma, superficial acral fibromyxoma, matrix fibroma and calcifying aponeurotic fibroma. The chapter also describes the histopathology and differential diagnosis of some of the malignant fibrous tumors, including fibrosarcoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and epithelioid sarcoma. Fibrosarcomas are the prototype of a malignant fibroblastic tumor. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a tumor that diffusely infiltrates the dermis and subcutis of the skin, the latter particularly along the fibrous septa of the cutaneous fat. Epithelioid sarcoma is characterized by granuloma-like proliferations of eosinophilic plump, often epithelioid and spindle-shaped cells. There is frequently necrosis in the center of the nodular proliferations.
