ABSTRACT

Environmental pollution has become one of the primary factors threatening health in China. Environmental pollution and the damage it does to health has become the focus of public attention and concern. Given that environmental issues are still severe in China and health patterns are shifting, the special report focuses on the environmental and health issues that the country is facing, including their risks. The extremely serious environmental situation and resulting health consequences demand that China's environmental management truly take human health as the ultimate consequence and decisive factor in determining action. In regions where environmental health issues are severe, China should adopt comprehensive environmental pollution prevention and control measures, to improve overall environmental quality and protect public health. China's environmental problems are now exhibiting 'composite' characteristics as well as concentrated or 'compressed' characteristics. China's environmental pollution is both 'composite' and 'compressed,' in that traditional forms of pollution have not yet been dealt with while new forms are rapidly coming along.
