ABSTRACT

Without a robust and adequate set of foundations a house can be started but it just will not stand up or allow for any additions to it. This chapter explores the creation and maintenance of the business process management (BPM) Foundations, always ensuring they are robust enough to last well beyond the immediate needs. It describes how to develop an organization's strategy, how the organization's strategy, process management and the individual processes relate and interact and how the BPM management team can add significant value to the process of executing strategy. Building the foundations and roadmap of the way forward assists in achieving milestones while maintaining momentum. The top-down approach will require all aspects of the first step of the Foundations phase to be in alignment. The Foundations phase outputs will provide critical input into other phases of the framework. The Foundation phase provides the structure and components for the execution of the Enablement phase.
