ABSTRACT

While technology can and will add significant benefit to a business process management (BPM) implementation, it is important to clearly understand what exactly BPM technology is, and the various components. Technology can transform key business processes out of the old value chain and into new, dynamic, value networks. This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes what components are included within a Business Process Management System (BPMS). It provides the three major BPM enablers and their individual components. The book considers which components may be required in your particular BPM implementation. It articulates potential future technology components and features. The book also provides a brief overview of the technology standards applicable to BPM. Activity-based costing (ABC) makes the success of BPM projects measurable, and creates transparency in the understanding and therefore potential control of process costs.
