ABSTRACT

Tunisia has and continues to face critical issues concerning migration, which requires close cooperation within the region and – perhaps more importantly – with EU member states such as Italy and France. To what extent did the revolution lead to a change in Tunisia’s migration policies and how did Tunisia’s bargaining position vis-à-vis its partners change? Based on a two-level game approach, this chapter analyses Tunisia’s position throughout the transition phase. It examines: the increasing involvement of civil society within Tunisia in the policy-making process; the demands posed by the EU; and the individual partners’ measures of support.
