ABSTRACT

This chapter reproduces the lighting specific to real-world locations. It includes the following critical information: choosing between multiple light options for the same scene, determining when to use Physically Based Rendering lighting systems, and designing lighting for characters and locations. When it comes to lighting, two of the most common subjects are locations and characters. The chapter utilizes directional lights to represent the sun and bounced sunlight. This is an ideal place to use directional lights as they have direction without position while representing a light source that is infinitely far away. Cinematographers, videographers, and photographers will often measure light on a location in stops. A stop is a measure of exposure relating to the doubling or halving of the amount of light exposing the frame. The omnidirectional style of the point light mimics fire light that would be present around the background torch.
