ABSTRACT

For an empirical test, a single unchanging perspective on the evolving drawing was needed. In order to learn more about the interpretation of these evolving drawings, we set up an exploratory test with a newly created evolving drawing. The evolving drawing was shown to participants in four different conditions in order to check if these caused differences in interpretation. In conditions 1, 2, and 4, we asked the participants to give their interpretations or associations verbally, having considered the advantages and possible shortcomings of this technique. In the third condition the participants had to note their associations on paper themselves. The first hypothesis was that the evolving conditions in the original order, i.e. condition 1 and 2, would offer comparable dominant interpretations among the participants. The second hypothesis concerned the variation in the responses per phase. Further research following from our experiment with an evolving drawing could reach a understanding of the impeding effects of contradictory information in the drawing.
