ABSTRACT

Explanations can have wider impact, however, if they result in an alteration in the model of a thing, a simulor. Since the simulor will be used in simulating any situation in which that thing, or type of thing, is involved, these explanations can effect a larger increase in understanding. The most complex explanations are those that involve the modification of effectors. Indeed, these explanations are much closer to teaching: there is no way that they could be conveyed in a single sentence, and it is sometimes difficult to convey them at all. A self-evidencing explanation is one in which the only evidence for the fact doing the explaining, or an essential part of the evidence, is the fact being explained. The basic element of all effector-explanations is the provision of a new mutor. This may be simply added to an effector, replace an already-existing mutor, or be part of a completely new effector.
