ABSTRACT

Construction is a dangerous industry, and jobsites pose many hazards to construction craftsmen, as well as the general public around a site. To minimize the potential for construction injuries, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has established national safety standards that are enforced through a jobsite inspection program. Because of the importance of safety management, most construction firms have developed safety programs and employ full-time safety professionals. Potential safety hazards exist on all construction projects, and project-specific safety plans are necessary to proactively manage the hazards. Project-specific safety plans frequently prescribe pre-task safety checklist exercises at the beginning of each work shift. These exercises are conducted by each crew to identify daily tasks and evaluate corresponding hazards and control measures. Weekly safety inspections are usually conducted at the jobsite to identify hazards and ensure compliance with job-specific safety rules.
