ABSTRACT

Production control and reporting is an important element of construction project management. The jobsite project team is responsible for ensuring that the project is completed on schedule and within budget. To accomplish this challenging task, production controls—or cost and time controls—are established to monitor progress throughout the project. Cost codes are used to track project costs and compare them with the budgeted (or estimated) value for each element of work. One of the most evident advantages of planning construction by assembly or work packages, in lieu of Construction Specification Institute (CSI), is the ability to monitor progress in both time and cost. The concept of work packages involves grouping all items of work into one assembly, regardless of CSI, supplier, or craft installation. In the field, a broad assortment of technology tools is available to project engineers to input what they are observing.
