ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at FCP's compositing tools, including a prebuilt preview to show off the various effects. It explains how to work with the Screen and Multiply blend modes because of their unique properties. The chapter also explains to build a text composite using these tools and add a bug for a project. It then shows how to work with some of the most powerful compositing blend modes, the Stencil Alpha and Luma and the Silhouette Alpha and Luma functions, which allowed to use one image to cut through multiple layers of video. The chapter provides the ability to let clips meld organically with each other. It also shows to create highlight mattes, animate them, and make them into glints, which is to be animated. Finally, the chapter discusses building a complex multilayer project of video within multiple letters of a title, all animated against a video background.
