ABSTRACT

The assessment is the willingness to see things as they are—dispassionately and objectively—and without distortion. There are three primary sources of assessment data: behavioral indicators, procedural indicators, and external indicators. Behavioral indicators are things that people can directly observe—in other words, what they can hear, see, and feel. They include voice volume, tone and inflection, body language, and facial expressions. External feedback is anything that people hear—directly or indirectly—from architects, owners, subcontractors, end users, or designated community contacts that could indicate that all is not well on the team. During a strategic planning session or Kaizen event, the managers were assembled into four separate teams and given the opportunity to create a new organizational structure to address the issues. Interestingly, three out of the four teams came up with virtually the same organizational solution. This new structure not only allowed them to share resources and opportunities but it compelled them to do so.
