ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses issues concerning attitude that directly affect Lean culture. People's attitude is the well from which the chapter draws the invitations of trust, and in turn, is the source point for the promotion of a culture that focuses on continuous improvement. When people are attempting to create a Lean culture, it's about setting the team up to achieve sustainable results over the long haul rather than implementing quick fixes that could, in the long run, be fraught with problems and misfires. In reality, people's attitude reflects the regard they have for others. It is equally important that leaders address the lack of regard that others on the team have for their fellow teammates– particularly when someone with unique technical skills is allowed to run roughshod over the rest of the team. Leaders created an organizational structure whereby everyone on the team understood not only their own job responsibilities but those of their teammates as well.
