This was first published as a two-part review of Documents on German Foreign Policy, Series D, Vol. 1: From Neurath to Ribbentrop, September 1937-September 1939 (Washington, Government Printing Office, 1949), in the Manchester Guardian, 19 and 22 August 1949. Part 1 was entitled 'The Last Days of Neurath' and Part 2, 'Austria and After'.
