ABSTRACT
This essay was first published as a review of Documents on British Foreign Policy 1919-1939, Third Series, Vol. 3: 1938-9, edited by E.L. Woodward and Rohan Butler assisted by Margaret Lambert (London, HMSO, 1950), in the New Statesmen and Nation, 40, 1029 (25 November 1950). The essay ends with a characteristically colourful and memorable comment.
He also reviewed the volume in the Manchester Guardian (22 November 1950), under the title 'Failure of the Munich Policy' and reprinted it as 'From Munich to Prague: British Version' in his collection of essays, Rumours of Wars (London, Hamish Hamilton, 1952), and Europe: Grandeur and Decline (Harmondsworth, Penguin, 1967).
