ABSTRACT

These three reports written by Alan Taylor in Prague were published in the Manchester Guardian (24, 25 and 29 July 1946). They were written in the 'People's democracies' period before the Iron Curtain came down across Eastern Europe. Alan Taylor's essays were written when he was still optimistic that the wartime alliance with the Soviet Union could continue into the post-war period. They also follow on from The Course of German History (London, Hamish Hamilton, 1945), in dwelling on 'The German problem'.
