ABSTRACT

This essay first appeared in The Cbelwood Review, 9 (January 1981), and is one of the later of Alan Taylor's essays, written before the collapse of the Soviet Union. It takes Soviet Russia as a key player in international relations in the future. It also repeats his frequent warnings of the likelihood of a third world war. It was also the theme of his last prestigious public lecture, the Romanes lecture that he delivered in March 1982 at Oxford University entitled 'War In Our Time'.
