ABSTRACT

Quantitative research was used to determine patterns of activity and levels of communicativity in order to derive some social indicators of neighbourhood quality. Kostanjevica in the Krsko District was chosen as an example of small rural-urban community. Culturological analysis was carried out prior to devising the plan for urban rehabilitation. The areas in Ljubljana were paired with Glasgow ones according to their age of construction and types of neighbourhood: like tenement block configuration, neighbourhoods from functionalist period of town planning, terraced housing, and modern neighbourhoods with through traffic excluded from the area, and with pedestrian facilities in the central area. Krsko was chosen because there a culturoiogical analysis was carried out by the author, prior to the current rehabilitation programme. Activity analysis in loco is one of the methods in behavioural and social research which contributes to the necessary objectivity of the study.
