ABSTRACT

Over the years, numerous researchers have pointed out the difficulty associated with defining the term terrorism. Many tend to avoid the problem of defining of terrorism by placing emphasis on so many dictums such as “today’s terrorist is tomorrow’s freedom fighter,” “terrorism to some is heroism to others,” “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter,” and so on. Poland (1988) stated that these connotations show the difficulty scholars encounter in their effort to provide a global definition of terrorism for research purposes.
