ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book develops and facilitates the practical application of the international human right to freedom of conscience. It offers an initial approach for a broader application of the right to freedom of conscience. The book has referred to descriptive approaches towards a conscientious belief. It compares and contrasts the notion of a conscientious belief with the manner in which the human rights system has structured the protection accorded to religious beliefs. A large part of the book was devoted to working with the interplay between religion and other forms of beliefs, and proposing a human right that accounts for a broader approach to incorporate all beliefs, apparently the already contentious right to freedom of religion will become even more problematic. The book addresses internal issues pertaining to the right, principally focusing on developing the right to freedom of conscience.
