ABSTRACT

The concept of staff and students working together as partners is a focus of contemporary higher education policy and practice internationally. Within an arguably consumerist context, this approach is aligned with aspirations for a more democratic, collaborative, interactive and negotiated form of higher education. In this chapter the authors explore ways in which students can meaningfully participate as partners in different aspects and levels of quality assurance in higher education. Throughout the chapter, the authors draw on practical examples to illustrate the approaches being examined and, within this, stakeholders, including students, Students’ Union officers, professional services staff and academics have contributed their perspectives on engagement in this work.
