ABSTRACT

The current new generation of leaders generally followed the ideas of Deng Xiaoping, but the new international and domestic situations and the new problems they face have characteristics different from the past. In general, the new generation of Chinese leadership will face the following challenges in diplomacy and international issues in the coming years: the first challenge comes from the powerful and vigorously rising nationalist sentiment and international appeal. The second major challenge is to face and deal with those tough maritime sovereignty disputes against a new round of emerging global "blue enclosure movement". The third major challenge explains how to respond to the grave situation brought by the US "return to Asia" and the "strategic rebalancing", so that that superpower will not be a "stumbling block" to China's sustainable rise and peaceful development. From the perspective of diplomacy and international strategy, another challenge comes from China's increasingly growing energy demand and dependence on foreign markets.
