ABSTRACT

A short paper on "Duty and Inclination" recently appeared in this journal. I should like to reply, equally briefly, by sketching the most important points of an ethic of "Moral-mindedness" which transcends the dispute between Duty and Inclination. My main conclusion is that a mere mixture of the two principles is as inadequate as either on its own, and that what they both take for granted needs to be criticised, and replaced by a more adequate account of the person.
