ABSTRACT
Although chaos is an ever present threat in the lives of many women drug users and problem drinkers, it coexists with its apparent opposite - control. Whether relating to self control, or more often control by others (particularly men), this theme is one which frequently recurs in women's stories, either overtly, or as an unspoken subtext.
