ABSTRACT
UK/US BALANCE SHEET FORMATS UK law enacts EU directives aiming to standardize the formats of company accounts throughout Western Europe. Schedule 4 to the Companies Act 1985 (as amended by the Companies Act 1989) contains the provisions relating to the form and content of accounts (see Appendix 5 on pages 291 to 295). Section A sets out general rules relating to disclosure; and Section B contains the two permitted balance sheet formats and the four profit and loss account formats.
