ABSTRACT

Typical sentence-final endings are speech level endings, such as the formal, polite, intimate, and plain endings. However, in spoken communication, various sentence-final suffixes (e.g., 지, 군, and 네) as well as clausal conjunctives (e.g., ~거든, ~는/(으)ㄴ데, and ~어서/아서) can also serve as sentence endings. In addition, to make the sentence honorific, one can add 요 “the politeness marker” to these endings (e.g., ~지요, ~군요, ~네요, ~거든요, and ~어서/아서요).
