ABSTRACT

Metaphysics can also be considered from the standpoint of pedagogical strategies. A perspective approach to the study of metaphysics would be to approach the subject matter of metaphysics through a metaphysical perspective such as, process philosophy, the dialectic of concepts, a single system perspective, the perspective of hermeneutics, or comparative philosophy. One mode of incorporating hermeneutics into one's metaphysics would be to take metaphysical concepts from one philosopher and adapt them to a different use within one's own metaphysics. To select one perspective for review both because of its novelty for Western philosophers and for its special illumination of the present approach, it is of interest to contrast the cyclical progression of Yin-Yang philosophy with the dialectical progression of Hegelian philosophy. This chapter also discusses the Modified Hegelianism and Chinese Modified Hegelianism. Instead of adapting the hegelian dialectic simpliciter, one can adapt the yin-yang concept.
