ABSTRACT

In light of the historical contextualization and from a general persuasion perspective, the core question arises naturally again. Persuasion has been addressed extensively, both as a psychological phenomenon applied to various domains – as for instance in the case of Brock and Green – as well as a discoursal and textual phenomenon across different genres. 'Persuasion sustainability' is the same: the degree a persuasive act is performed not to the detriment of the persuaded or, in optimal conditions, for the sake of the persuaded together with the persuader. Besides, such an account of persuasion along sustainability implies a redefinition of the notion of "power." Focusing on political discourse means observing an important source of evidence on how persuasion works. A problematic aspect of an analysis aimed at studying the action of power in discourse may be an explicit political stance. A highly debatable yet crucial matter when approaching persuasion in the political process and/or discourse is certainly that of manipulation.
