ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the process involved in developing a vision, business plan, and Human Resource (HR) strategies adapted by British Airways plc. It overviews the airline industry in general and the history of British Airways, considers that goals and objectives of British Airways focusing on its strategic vision and business mission, and outlines the company's future programmes based on its functions in human resource. Collis and Montgomery argue that an effective corporate strategy consists of five elements vision; goals and objectives; business; structure, system, and process, and finally resources that together as a system lead to corporate advantages that create economic value. HR strategies are functional like financial, marketing, production or IT strategies. HR development strategies, should be designed especially to support the need for new or enhanced skills, multi-skilling and increases in competence required to achieve business strategies.
