ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the contexts of Newcastle City Council (NCC) and Newcastle Business School (NBS), discusses the aim of the developmental pathway for NCC, the individual students and outlines the current NBS postgraduate relationship. The NBS DMS has a substantial reputation for public sector management and this, is reflected in the split in second year between generalist and public sector options. The development of the corporate supervisory and management development programme is a significant commitment to the development of the people in NCC, in terms of financial investment, the support offered and the investment of individual and corporate time. The NCC pathway aims to expose managers to alternative approaches to management and not just the 'public sector' approach. The developmental partnership between NCC and NBS is still in the early stages and there is much to gain from a full evaluation of the first academic year.
