ABSTRACT

Margarete Lihotzky was born in Vienna on January 23, 1897, the rebel daughter of a father civil servant of the Austrian State who was a lover of music and opposed the First World War, and of a mother who took care of her family until enlisting in the Red Cross in 1914. The mission of Margarete Lihotzky in the Office of Construction was to gather ideas on the rationalization of home economics in order to apply them to the various typologies of dwellings that were being built in Frankfurt am Main. Margarete responded to City Hall's proposal of finding a solution for the housing of single women with the idea of superimposed dwellings. The transportation difficulties after the war complicated her rejoining her husband, who had remained in Turkey during the war and had no visa. After several mishaps Margarete reached Sofia, where she awaited the return of her husband.
