ABSTRACT

Resilience is one of the subjects studied by positive psychologists. If developing resilience can help one to overcome adversity and find ways of creating a better life for themselves, then they need to identify the blocks to its development and what can be done to remove them. Intolerance of uncertainty is the core issue for most people who worry. Being resilient means that real confidence embraces both success and defeat, neither is taken too seriously, and that learning from whatever happens is the true focus of self-development. This chapter focuses on some of the attitudes that undermine resilience building and suggested ways of replacing them with resilience-oriented attitudes. Change is possible no matter how long one have been stuck in their ways, but the starting point is a willingness to be open to discussing new ideas and trying out some different behaviours if people want to develop a resilient outlook.
