ABSTRACT

In 1974, Fereshteh travelled to England with her grandmother and her male cousins, whose fate had been determined at the same time. Today, Fereshteh is a beautiful, gentle, thoughtful soul. It is almost painful to imagine her, wandering, lost, at the age of twelve, in strange surroundings believing she was being punished. Fereshteh's overall reaction to the boarding school experience is mixed. Gathering her thoughts and after what seems a reflective moment, she continues with a contagious, sarcastic laugh: Now, I am a bloody independent fifty-one-year-old. Fereshteh was about to end her story when she seemed to remember something else, wondering whether she should talk about it and whether it was relevant to the subject matter. After her return to London, Fereshteh was educated as an interior designer. A few years later, she partnered with her then Italian husband to run a successful architectural practice while she became a lecturer at a university.
