ABSTRACT

The epilogue focuses on geographical studies of place attachment (topophilia). It catalogs techniques geographers have used to achieve various types of “insideness” with regard to place. These include interpretation of place representations such as novels and films, analysis of the spatial organization of landscapes, and empathetic appreciation for inhabitants and their feelings about a place. The chapter is primarily a systematic consideration of how particular research methodologies have been employed: archival research, landscape studies, interviews, and discourse analysis. The epilogue also considers who should be included among research subjects for this research and why place attachment needs to be studied.
